It is always a wonderful occasion for the Society to welcome the incoming President, and at this dinner we will be celebrating the accession of Andrew Navakas to the ‘Throne’. Andrew has been a long-standing member of the Society, and has devoted much time to the Committee, including having a specific role in running the website and our IT in general. It is with much pleasure that the outgoing President, Steven Adlard, and the incoming Vice President, Drew Hewson, welcome you to celebrate this event at Saxe.
Joe Grbac is the head chef at Saxe, which is his first solo restaurant, and the restaurant has been open since October 2017. The Society had a wonderful Cellar Master’s Dinner there in May last year. Joe has formerly worked at London’s two Michelin-starred The Square, before returning to Australia to work at the Press Club. He went to the very successful Saint Crispin, where he was a business partner with Scott Pickett, a fellow chef from The Square days.
Reviews of Saxe are uniformly positive. A recent one on the website “Good Food” said, “There’s no gimmickry, no ‘dining concept’, just good contemporary food, French-ish but relaxed, served by accomplished professionals, in a classy, comfortable space that suits suits and culinary wanderers alike.”
We will be in the lovely upstairs dining area, and as always in the Society’s dealings with Joe, we can expect excellent food, beautifully presented, and with high quality service.
Steven and Drew have put together an excellent range of wines to accompany the food, paying particular attention to Andrew’s favourite wine styles. Please join us for this very exciting function at a great restaurant.
